Scams

Misleading the thoughts of others.

It’s a skill, a craft, and sometimes an art.

I watch people every day selling something—

A new product they're peddling, or

Mostly the way they disguise the real product

With the crafty way they put words together.

They don't know you, nor care for you;

But it seems like it!

Until . . . you buy it.

It’s as old as humankind.

“If you eat this lovely, delicious fruit, you won’t die!

Why . . . you’ll be like God!”

So, all these years later, and far too slow to catch on,

We still don’t see the scams.

We aren’t wise at all.

And then, Sometimes . . .

We are the ones trying to take advantage.

And, in so doing, WE become the victims.

Oh, we don’t see it immediately.

But what goes 'round comes 'round, later!

When the sun rises today,

Like a scene from a Rocky Horror Picture Show,

A few more people will follow the group chant, “Eat the fruit!”

God says, “Better look deeper.”

We say, “Better get what I can while the taking is good.”

God says, “It’s better to be truthful, kind, and giving.”

We say, “I’ll make you look bad to make me look good.”

God says, “Drop your differences and make things right.”

We say, “Don’t trust anyone; they’ll only end up hurting you.”

God says, “Become friends with me; I'm already a friend with you.”

How is it that, still, God’s way isn’t ‘attractive’?

It’s another morning.

We can choose to start over and do better.

Will it be scam or no thank you ma’am?
