Perfect Love & Rescues

MEET KATY AND LANCE. Born sometime in 2014. Lance loves to chase balls over and over and over. I believe he would do it until he dropped dead—or until I did.

Katy loves to eat, cuddle, and, well, look cute.

These dogs are smart and playful—and know how to pose. Loyal and protective, they have no idea they’re small.

But they were neither friendly nor happy when we rescued them —at three months old!

What kind of person tortures puppies?

Affectionate as they are now, Turning their heads at every word we utter,

They still cower, duck and/or roll over If we move our hand toward them too quickly.

They fear punishment, even though they know us.

I can relate.

For years I understood The Master fearfully. Afraid His hand would deliver what I deserved. It’s not that His message has changed, but that He persisted perfectly in his loving ways. When I finally understood what He was saying to me (to us all) I stopped cowering and being afraid if I did wrong. That was before I began to love my Creator.

Now that I understand love better, I can show love better. That's a good thing for everyone who knows me, including Katy and Lance. They may never completely lose their fear of me, but I will never knowingly hurt them. I can better come to understand God, perhaps, as his compassion toward me isn't a result of how I act but of who he is, was, and always will be.

It helps to have living lessons right in front of me every day, along with these sweet words:

“We need have no fear of someone who loves us perfectly; his perfect love for us eliminates all dread of what he might do to us. If we are afraid, it is for fear of what he might do to us and shows that we are not fully convinced that he really loves us. So you see, our love for him comes as a result of his loving us first.” (I Jn 4:18,19)
