Choices

These United States were not God’s “chosen people,” although we certainly are a nation that made choices. And we the people continue to choose. Some choices good; others not so much. It’s obvious to the whole world we are not perfect. But NO people are. Not one nation in all of history. Ever.

Do we have power schemes—since our independence began? Indeed; and so did all others who wished to get what they wanted by human determination and resolute force—which would be every nation. And there are, today, schemes within schemes in America.

But is all our scheming getting us where we really want to be?

I believe a people (not governments, people) who will turn to God, and remain standing firm, who will reject power schemes to reach their goals, who will instead tap into the source of real power, will receive the wonderful blessings He offers. And those blessings will overflow into the whole world.

America started well. With God. But as is common among the people of the nations on this planet, we didn’t fully live up to our creed, and then slowly lost focus on what we really wanted to attain. It opened a type of Pandors's Box of human schemes.

I agree we should have a strong military defense, and a government of, by, and for the people is a worthy goal. And because humans don’t always act with integrity we must work to become a nation with just laws—which are applied equally to ALL, including those who make the laws and who are in power over us.. A nation’s problems begin when it ‘forgets’ where it came from: such as people seeking the freedom to worship their Creator as they see fit.

In a way, America’s wealth began with oil! But not the kind used to propel vehicles.

God’s prophet of old, newly out of captivity, saw oil flowing through golden pipes to a candelabra as the means of light in a new temple. And afterward, he heard these famous words: “Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD Almighty.” Oil in the Bible was often a symbol of the Spirit of God. Simply put, God was saying, neither powerful armed forces, nor a united and resolute people will build a nation of integrity that will not fail. Only the Spirit of God can do that.

All civilizations through time have (and will have) the same choice.

We may still be able to choose blessings or curses, again. But, it is written:

“God takes the wind out of (Babel) pretense,

he shoots down the world’s power-schemes.

God’s plan for the world stands up,

all HIS designs are made to last.

Blessed is the country that chooses God;

blessed are the people he’s put in his will."

(Ps 33:12 MSG)
